About Bampton Parish Council

Bampton Parish Council is one of the tiers of Government; the lowest tier after the central government, county and district governments, and is the one most in touch with ordinary people. There are seven councillors who are elected to serve for four years. Council meetings are held at 7:00pm in the Memorial Hall every alternate month starting in January and agendas and minutes for these meetings will be on the website. Parishioners are welcome to attend meetings and to comment on items on the agenda but they cannot take part in the actual discussions. In every meeting, time is set aside for parishioners comments and they can also raise matters that should be discussed at a future meeting. Sometimes people with special knowledge of an issue under discussion are invited to share that knowledge with the council so an informed decision can be made.

As one of the tiers of government the council is consulted by bodies such as the Lake District National Park Authority (planning applications etc), Westmorland and Furness Council (Highways matters, waste collection, recycling etc) and councillors try to reflect the views of parishioners when they respond to consultations. The Council, through the Clerk, also passes on concerns about specific problems to the appropriate authorities.

Councillors are elected to represent the parish and they can be contacted directly if you have concerns that need to be discussed or opinions that you wish to express.
